Well, it's that time of year and the kids have gone back to school, masks and all! I think this is always a bittersweet time. It's hard as a parent to have the kids home all day especially for moms. My sweet wife is such a trooper taking care of the kids and keeping our home organized and I am grateful for her. Even though it is difficult at times there is nothing that brings more joy than your children!
With everyone heading back to school and the fall and winter season coming we always see an increase in flu cases. This year will be a particularly interesting "flu season" with another bully on the block - COVID-19. Even though it has been shown that younger people are not as affected it is vitally important to do our best to prevent illness. The question is, "What do I do to help prevent myself and family from getting sick?"
There are many things that we can do but these are things that I would highly recommend that everyone can easily do.
Get Adjusted! - I can not emphasize this enough. Adjustments have shown to trigger the response of the immune system as it is tied directly to the nervous system.
Drink water - Drinking half your body weight in ounces is recommended. The moment we dehydrate by 5% we begin to lose proper function of our body.
Regular Exercise - Exercise has numerous benefits physically, mentally, and emotionally. We all know it's important and I don't need to explain in detail why we should exercise regularly.
Eat fresh whole foods - Lets be honest, processed foods are all over and around us. These foods over time will definitely kill us. Our body replaces itself with those things that we eat. Eating fresh whole foods will allow our body to efficiently use those important vitamins and minerals effectively.
Supplement when needed - Our foods have been depleted little by little of the nutrients that we need. Supplements should be used to supplement what we can not get in our normal diet. There are a few vitamins and minerals that I highly recommend and that's because we are typically deficient in them.
Vitamin D3
Magnesium
Zinc
Probiotics
Digestive Enzymes
Vitamin C
Sunshine - The next one is to get outside frequently when the sun is shinning! The sun is vital to our health. Sunlight leads to increased production in vitamin D3, serotonin and melatonin. All of these are important in aiding our immunity.
Sleep - Proper amounts of sleep are viral to health and recovery. 8 hours a night is what we should shoot for.
The next few blogs, I'll go over a little more in detail on each point and how it helps our immune system. These will not protect us 100% but these will give us the best fighting chance to prevent these seasonal illnesses.
